CEOs in our Business Units

Telenor Group has mobile operations in 13 markets. The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) are the highest-ranking corporate officers (executives) in the management of Telenor’s global business units. The CEOs are responsible for and shall ensure that the business units they manage are run and further developed in accordance with Telenor’s way of doing business; the governance and organizational culture through the Vision and Values, Code of Conduct, Group Policies and Procedures and Leadership Expectations.

Berit Svendsen

CEO of Telenor Norway

  • Appointed: 14 September 2011

Background: She joined Telenor in 1988 as a Research Scientist. From 2000 to 2005 she was Executive Vice President and CTO of Telenor and also working Chair of Telenor R&D. In January 2005 she took up the position as Vice President and Head of Telenor Nordic Fixed with overall responsibility for the fixed network business in Norway. From 2002 to 2007 Berit Svendsen was a member of the European Commission / IST Advisory Group. She joined Conax as CEO in May 2008.

Education: Berit Svendsen holds an MSc in Electronics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) (1988), and a Master of Technology Management from NTNU and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA (1995).

Patrik Hofbauer

CEO of Telenor Sweden

Patrik Hofbauer

  • Appointed: August 1, 2014

Background: Patrik Hofbauer started working at Telenor in 2011, as CEO of Canal Digital AS. He then took on the additional role as the CEO of Telenor Broadcast Holding.

Hofbauer was previously the CEO of the Nordic region’s largest outdoor advertising company, Clear Channel. In addition, he has served as CEO for NEC Scandinavia, CEO for AddressPoint AB and CEO of Canal Digital Sweden (2005-2008).

Education: Patrik holds a DIHM Marketing Economy Diploma and Master from IHM, Business School in Sweden (1995-2000), and also a specialization within Marketing & Strategy from London Business School from 2008.

Marek Slacik

CEO of Telenor Denmark

  • Appointed: 1 September 2012

Background: Marek has worked as Telenor Serbia’s Chief Marketing Officer since July 2009. He has 10 years of telecommunications leadership experience, working for start-ups, market challengers, as well as established operators, including Vodafone, Telefónica O2 and Telenor.

Education: Master degree in business administration at the University of Economics in Prague, Czech.

Christopher Laska

CEO of Telenor Hungary

  • Appointed: 18 January 2011

Background: Prior to his appointment to CEO of Telenor Hungary in January 2011, Christopher Laska had served as CEO of Telenor Montenegro since 2009. He has also worked as the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer in Telenor Serbia. In addition, he has served as Project Director M&A in Telenor International Mobile, Country Manager for Telenor in Pakistan and Hungary and Business Development & Strategy Director in Telenor in Hungary (Pannon GSM).

Education: Bachelor of Science with honours in Business Management from Bradford University Management Centre in the UK, as well as a post-graduate degree from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in London.

Ove Fredheim

CEO of Telenor Serbia

  • Appointed: 1 September 2012

Background: Ove Fredheim comes from Telenor Group Headquarters, where he was heading the Markets unit within the Group Industrial Development for the past three years. Prior to that, Fredheim served as CEO, Telenor Hungary, from 2003 to 2009. Fredheim has been with Telenor for 20 years and has held several management positions.

Fredheim is member of the Board of Directors in Telenor Norway.

Education: Bachelor Degree from Oslo School of Business Administration.

Stein Erik Vellan

CEO of Telenor Bulgaria


  • Appointed: 1 August 2013

Background: Stein-Erik Vellan comes from the position as Head of Mobile in Telenor Norway. Stein-Erik Vellan has vast experience from the CEE region, while heading Telenor Serbia during a two-and-a-half-year period through an important transitional phase. After his posting in Serbia, Stein-Erik Vellan served as Managing Director of Uninor in India in the company’s upstart face. Stein-Erik Vellan has also been part of Telenor’s Nordic management, successfully heading the Norwegian business market division.

Lars-Åke Norling

CEO of DiGi

  • Appointed: August 1, 2014

Background: Norling joined Bredbandsbolaget (Sweden) in 1999, where he held various senior positions. In 2006 Norling was appointed Head of Telenor Sweden’s fixed network and a year later he took on the position as CTO of Telenor Sweden. From 2009-2014, he served as CEO of Telenor Sweden.

Education: MBA from the School of Business, Gothenburg, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Physics, Uppsala University, and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from USA.

Rajeev Sethi

CEO of Grameenphone,

Mr. Rajeev Sethi - Chief Marketing Officer Uninor India

  • Appointed: 1 December 2014

Background: Prior to joining Grameenphone as CEO, Rajeev Sethi served as CMO in Uninor for nearly two years. Sethi has also served for more than three years as the head of Uninor’s Uttar Pradesh East circle. He has significant ICT industry experience, including executive engagements in companies such as Vodafone, HP, Hutchison Telecom and Asian Paints. Sethi received an MBA in Marketing, Finance and Operations from the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow.

Michael Foley

CEO of Telenor Pakistan


  • Appointed: 1 July 2014

Background: Michael Foley has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and operational experience in the telecom, retail and gaming sectors from both advanced and growth markets.  Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Tunisia, Bulgaria and Romania figure among the dozen markets where he has held commercial or business leadership roles in telecoms.

Education: Michael Foley is a Graduate of McGill University in Montreal with BA in Organizational Psychology.

Vivek Sood

CEO of Uninor,

  • Appointed: 1 December 2014

Background: Mr. Vivek Sood comes from the position as CEO in Grameenphone. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Indian mobile operator Uninor. His 22 years of experience also include executive positions in companies like Tata AIG life Insurance, Hutchison Telecom, Tupperware India and Hindustan Lever Limited (Unilever).

Michael Malvebo

CEO Telenor Montenegro


  • Appointed: 1 June 2013

Background: Michael Malvebo has 20+ years leadership experience in product, marketing, sales and finance, covering Sweden, USA and Bangladesh. He started career in telecommunication sector in 2000 at Europolitan, the Swedish operator (later known as Vodafone Sweden) and Telenor Sweden, where he had various leadership roles in the commercial division. Michael has been working in Grameenphone as a Head of Product for the last 3 years, where he set up a new product department covering all GP’s products and processes and a complete revamp of the portfolio.

Petter Furberg

CEO Telenor Myanmar

Petter Furberg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telenor Myanmar

  • Appointed: 12 July 2013


Since joining Telenor 14 years ago, Mr. Furberg has held a number of senior management positions within the company, including dtac’s CFO and Chief Marketing Officer, where he oversaw product development, sales and marketing. He also previously served as Senior Vice President, Head of Financial Services at Telenor Group. Prior to joining Telenor he held senior positions with the Norwegian Parliament and Norwegian Ministry of Finance.
